Job title:Key Account Manager (Oil & Gas Engineering)
Office in:Burgundy, France
Company:Salzgitter Mannesmann Stainless Tubes (SMST)
On board:since 1986

I started in the UK in 1986 with IMS Group, an exclusive agent for leading steel producers in Europe including the original owner of our current French mill. Over the years, the various acquisitions and mergers provided me with the opportunity of choosing to work for DMV Stainless, a joint venture in between Dalmine (now Tenaris), Mannesmann and Vallourec, focusing on the manufacture of seamless corrosion resistant alloys tubes and pipes predominantly in the energy sector. This was a good decision.

Since 2003, I am based in France at our mill in Burgundy. As part of our company updated strategy, in 2007, from Project Business Manager, I was appointed Global Key Accounts Manager for the Oil & Gas market.

My job involves travelling worldwide to observe and understand the market dynamics ensuring that our company stays close and focused on the key segments and actors of the industry. This includes national and international oil and gas companies, major contractors, normalization committees and major distributors. It is essential that our company is approved by all major users and has an active participation to the evolution of industry standards and main industry events. There is never a dull moment, the oil gas industry is very innovative and demanding but also very competitive and the chase for participation to capital projects and major contracts is always a very exciting challenge.

I enjoy meeting clients in their own environment and the international setting of the company provides this. I am in close contact will all our sales teams based in the USA, France, Italy and Germany. Daily, I work with colleagues to compile technical and commercial tenders, provide guidance and support to achieve commercial targets whilst ensuring consistent and effective marketing of our products. I also work closely with all our mills’ teams for projects completion management. I particularly enjoy being part of the company’s working groups for strategy definition and R & D programme.

Working for Salzgitter makes me feel part of a reputable organization which has played a historical role in the development of our products and is a major pillar of the European steel industry. I am proud to be an employee of Salzgitter as I value the company’s values and mission.

I have new challenges every day but I would say that my biggest challenge is to give our company the chance to embrace our clients' new requirements to their full satisfaction whilst keeping the right balance of optimized involvement for our team to ensure mutually beneficial partnership. This, our company achieves consistently through a collective commitment.
