The increase in NOx emissions in 2011 in the Steel Division is mainly due to the first full year of operating SZFG's new generating units and in the Tubes Division as a result of including MPE from 2009 onward.

Particulate matter (PM10)

The notably lower emissions of PM10 particulate matter in the Steel Division in the period leading up to 2011 is due especially to technical improvements. At SZFG, room dedusting and process gas purification of the sinter plant were modernized and other filtration units optimized, for example. Peiner Träger GmbH (PTG) also achieved significant improvements in dust removal. Compared with 2007, 2011 saw the total PM10 emissions of the Steel Division almost halved.
