In 2010/11, water consumption in the Steel Division was around 15 % above the pre-crisis level. This was mainly attributable to SZFG's greater need for industrial/service water, owing in part to higher production and due to additional units that consume water in the new power plant and in finishing. Despite technical measures to lower consumption and continuous improvement in water management by the Steel Division, water consumption is higher seen from an absolute standpoint. Although MPE is included from 2009 onward, the volume of water consumed in the Tubes Division has remained virtually constant since 2008 due mainly to optimizations such as improved recirculation, pipeline system replacements and to the installation of metering.
