TECHNLOGY DESMA touring Europe DRound trip in the design truck to advertise its products for Industry 4.0
ESMA Elastomertechnik GmbH is mobilizing and exploring new horizons. An eye-catching truck
designed by Luigi Colani is making a round trip through Europe to point out a pioneer- ing role in the sector for “Industry 4.0”.
DESMA, a group subsidiary of Salzgit- ter AG, is a medium-sized company, currently with 536 employees, 5 inter- national production sites, and 35 service and sales satellites, as well as just under 100 million euros in annual sales.€
e company manufactures injection molding machines, molds and systems for the production of technical rubber and silicone molded articles. “We are seen as the global market and technology leader,” says Martin Schürmann, “and
we want to keep and further expand this position.” Schürmann is managing direc- tor at DESMA, together with Dr. Harald Zebedin.
e machine manufacturing company from Fridingen in southern Germany has started a road show all across Europe. A 40-ton truck fully packed with pres- entation equipment and new 4.0-capa- ble products was sent on its way across
On the road in 16 countries: the DESMA roadshow team
Germany and Europe, and one stop was at the group headquarters in Salzgitter. More than 150 customers and interested parties in 16 countries visited the truck from April to October. e logo on the
truck and accompanying documents was a real eye catcher. DESMA calls its new, innovative product family that is dedi- cated to the topic of 4.0 “Smart Connect For You”.
INDUSTRIAL e HelmetGlass data glasses PARTICIPATIONS
Joint development of the Salzgitter subsidiary GESIS and Zwickau University of Applied Sciences Hundergoing testing
elmetGlass is a project that the Salzgitter subsidiary GESIS
is promoting together with
researchers at the West Saxon University of Applied Sciences of Zwickau. “It is still a prototype for workable data glasses suitable for use in industry and practice for our customers in steel production,” explains Peter Wegner, department head at GESIS (Gesellscha für Informations- systeme mbH) and one of the project controllers.
e technology’s key advantage is the immediacy with which information
is available. is allows it to integrate employees into the increasingly strongly networked IT processes. Many applica- tions, such as repair, remote maintenance, warehouse management, occupational health and safety, and communication among the employees, could bene t from the support.
Television is also interested in the data glass testing in operational use
Plans for the next expansion stage call for the glasses to be developed into a stand-alone mobile device and to include speci cations from occupational health
and safety and occupational medicine. e objective is for the HelmetGlass to be ready for industrial use in around two years and start work in the rst applications.
