 JANUARY
The Salzgitter Group presented its Construction Initiative at the joint booth run by bauforumstahl at the Bau 2019 trade fair. This established a uni- form marketing presence for the Group’s construc- tion-related activities for the first time.
MARCH
In collaboration with international partners, Sun- fire GmbH and the Salzgitter Group are building and operating the world's largest high-tempera- ture electrolyzer (HTE) for energy-efficient hy- drogen supply as part of the GrInHy2.0 project.
APRIL
The SALCOS® (SAlzgitter Low CO2-Steelmaking) project was showcased at Hannover Messe, mark- ing the world premiere of future low-carbon steel production. Virtual reality was used to provide a first-hand impression of the technical revolution, including changes to the plant configuration at the Salzgitter steelworks.
Salzgitter AG and Tenova officially announced a further step towards future-oriented, cli- mate-friendly steel production. The two com- panies confirmed their SALCOS® partnership by signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU).
Bauma in Munich is the world’s leading specialist trade show for the construction machinery and mining equipment and machinery sector. Salzgit- ter Group companies presented their products and services for this key customer segment.
MAY
A total of 450 shareholders and guests attended the Salzgitter AG General Shareholders’ Meet- ing at Stadthalle Braunschweig. The proposed resolutions were approved by a large majority. A dividend of EUR 0.55 per share is to be paid out for the 2018 financial year.
JULY
Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH launched one of its biggest investments of the past ten years: “Hot- Dip Galvanizing 3”. The aims and objectives: achieve qualitative growth in the flat steel segment, strengthen the premium segment for automotive customers and secure the future of the steel manu- facturing location.
Public officials visit Group headquarters: Lower Saxony's Environment and Energy Minister Olaf Lies visits Salzgitter AG with Minister of Economic Affairs and Deputy Premier Dr. Bernd Althus- mann to learn more about future projects such as decarbonization strategies and large-scale invest- ments.
SEPTEMBER
Salzgitter Mannesmann International GmbH was awarded an important major contract in Den- mark. Subsidiaries and affiliated companies are to produce and supply some 30,000 tons of steel pipes and 90 pipe bends for the Baltic-Pipe project – a significant European gas infrastructure project that will transport Norwegian natural gas to Poland via Denmark.
NOVEMBER
BlechExpo in Stuttgart is a meeting venue for the steel industry. “Share as you like” is the motto for the new Salzgitter Mannesmann Stahlservice multiblanking system.
Salzgitter AG has embarked on the commercial production of hydrogen, awarding the contract for the construction of a 2.5 megawatt PEM electrol- ysis plant (PEM = Proton Exchange Membrane) to Siemens Gas and Power. This is a crucial step towards hydrogen-based steel production. The plant is scheduled to go into operation in the fourth quarter of 2020 and will fully meet Salzgit- ter Flachstahl's current hydrogen needs.
DECEMBER
Salzgitter AG joined “Stiftung 2° – Deutsche Un- ternehmer für Klimaschutz”, a significant founda- tion comprising German entrepreneurs dedicated to climate protection. Stiftung 2° is an important platform positioned across all sectors: from the Group’s point of view, this makes it an excellent vehicle for highlighting the upcoming transfor- mational tasks facing industry from a variety of perspectives by promoting joint approaches and initiatives.
