 Steel creatures on skis: the Halley VI research station moves as soon as the going gets rough. In winter, temperatures average at less than –20 °C, but they can occasionally drop as low as –55 °C. Snow depths increase by 1.2 m each year. But the ice also moves – 700 meters per year in a westward direction
