SZFG modernizes Continuous Casting Line 1
The innovations are geared towards securing quality and increasing production flexibility
Continuous Casting Line 1: modernization of the facility will take place during a plant shutdown in the fourth quarter of 2020
STRIP STEEL After 36 years of operation, Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH is due to modernize its Continuous Casting Line 1 (SGA 1). The SMS Group has been awarded the contract. The overhaul will secure quality as well as increasing flexibility of allocation and operational reliability. Ilsenburger Grobblech GmbH also stands to benefit from the modern- ization since it will receive some of the slabs. Once the changes have been made,
slab widths of 900 of 2,600 mm will be possible. The oscillator now has to be replaced since its technical service life ends after 36 years of operation. The new oscillation system is capable of producing all grades susceptible to cracking.
Modernization work will be carried out during a planned plant shutdown in the fourth quarter of 2020. “We’re able to keep the shutdown short because some of the preparatory work has already been done,”
says Dr. Müller, Head of Continuous Casting and Finishing Lines. Gestamp and Salzgitter Flachstahl celebrate their longstanding customer-supplier relationship
STRIP STEEL Salzgitter Flach- stahl GmbH has been supplying steel to Gestamp Umformtechnik since 1950 – a total of some 1 million tons for chassis and body parts.. As rolled steel strip, this much material could be wound once around the equator. Dr. Sebastian Bross, Vice Chair- man of the Executive Board of Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH (SZFG), expressed his appreciation at a special celebration: “We are united by a long, trust-based business relationship that has grown appreciably over the past ten years. Gestamp is one
of our most important customers in the automotive supplier sector”.
