 Cleaner cruise liners
Heavy plate from Ilsenburg is helping to minimize the emissions of the AIDAnova
Enough to raise a smile on this cruise ship: The “AIDAnova” emits neither soot nor sulphur oxide
PLATE/SECTION STEEL Ilsenburger Grobblech GmbH (ILG) supplied material for the “AIDAnova” cruise liner operated by Rostock-based AIDA Cruises. The vessel is the world’s first cruise ship operating a new generation of liquid natu- ral gas engines (LNG). The three low temperature tanks required for this system were made using approximately 1,200 tons of 9% nickel-alloy steels from ILG. The natural gas in the tanks is stored at -162 °C and cleaned in multiple steps before liquefaction.
Europe’s most advanced, leading-edge multi-
blanking facility
SMS in Schwerte is developing into a competency center for sheet cutting
STRIP STEEL Salzgitter AG is in- vesting around € 6.0 million in the installation of Europe’s most advanced multi-blanking system at Salzgitter Mannesmann Stahlservice GmbH’s Schwerte plant. The investment is a boost to the location and positions Schwerte
as a competence center for sheet cutting. With the installation of the new system, SMS will be equipped to realize multiple cuts from large coil widths of up to 2,100 mm in addition to custom cutting geometries (sheets, omega/ trapezoidal cuts) from the second quarter 2019 on. The facility enables the processing of both aluminum and steel coils in thicknesses of 0.35 mm to 3.00 mm. “The new multi-blanking
line offers us the utmost flexibility in serving the increasing customer requirements with regards to quality and custom dimensions,”
as Ulrich Becker, Head of Strategic Business Development at SMS, is convinced.
The new facility has also proved extremely flexible in highly specialized cutting tasks
