Trading Business Unit
A large portion of global steel demand comes from small and medium-sized customers who cannot meet their needs directly through steel producers. As a result, these companies rely on steel traders as key partners for their procurement. The Salzgitter Group’s in-house trading activities enable it to reach these end customers directly and better understand their needs.
For this reason, the companies of the Salzgitter Group have maintained their own sales organizations since their inception; today, these are concentrated within the Trading Business Unit. Salzgitter Mannesmann Handel GmbH serves as the leading company within the Trading Business Unit. The Trading Business Unit also includes Salzgitter Mannesmann Stahlhandel GmbH, Salzgitter Mannesmann International GmbH, and Universal Eisen und Stahl GmbH (UES).
The Salzgitter Mannesmann Handel Group operates a network of full-range distribution centers in Europe, where customers can purchase steel products from the Salzgitter Group and other manufacturers and have them processed.
In addition, it operates an international trading business with customers and suppliers in key sales and procurement markets worldwide. Another key focus is the acquisition and execution of international project business, as well as the global procurement of raw materials for companies within the Salzgitter Group. To this end, it maintains an efficient network of its own representative offices and agencies across all five continents.
The range of services is complemented by Universal Eisen und Stahl GmbH. It has specialized in the trading of heavy plate since 1958 and has been part of the Salzgitter Group since 2002. With its own warehousing companies in Germany, other European countries, and the U.S., it is an established partner for heavy plate customers worldwide.
Through its subsidiaries, the Trading Business Unit maintains a strong national and international market presence. It connects customers, suppliers, and production companies along the entire value chain.
