Get connected 2007– International diplomats visit Salzgitter AG

Some 150 ambassadors, trade commissioners and leading representatives of the business world from more than 100 countries recently paid a visit to Lower Saxony. Apart from a conference on economic topics, getting to know the region’s leading enterprises was high on the agenda – and around 50 participants decided to take a closer look at steel manufacturing in Salzgitter.

The project named “get connected 2007“ was originally initiated by Commerzbank, while Lower Saxony’s Minister President Christian Wulff agreed to assume the sponsorship of the event.

Molten crude iron and red glowing steel – the group of visitors and the accompanying media representatives were soon captivated by the fascination of steel production in the blast furnaces and hot strip mills. Industrial engineers from Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH explained the processes and sequences at work in the large-scale plant facilities.

Before the tour of the steel works, Executive Board member Finance and Technology, Dr. Heinz Jörg Fuhrmann, and Ulrich Grethe, the technical managing director of Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH, had outlined the corporate strategy with its key elements of independence through profitability and growth, and cited the recent acquisition of Klöckner-Werke AG as a salient case in point. The latter company forms the core of the new Technology Division and “impresses with its high potential, while ranking among the world’s top 3 in the filling and packaging systems area,“ as Dr. Fuhrmann explained.
