The Salzgitter Group will feature as one of the largest exhibitors at this year’s EuroBLECH. The group will be represented in Hall 17, Stand D78 from October 25 to 29, 2016 with the subsidiaries Salzgitter Flachstahl, Salzgitter Mannesmann Forschung, Salzgitter Automotive Engineering, Salzgitter Europlatinen, Ilsenburger Grobblech, Salzgitter Mannesmann Stahlservice and Salzgitter Mannesmann Handel. October 25 marks one of the highlights, when the Customer Day will take place at the stand starting at 5:30 p.m.
The exhibits demonstrate the Salzgitter Group's competence as an important supplier serving the automotive industry. The group will be showcasing material solutions for chassis, transmission and outer body shell components.
More than 40 vehicle models from the Volkswagen Group use toolkit elements from the MQB platform (“Modularer Querbaukasten”, German for Modular Transverse Matrix). Salzgitter Flachstahl supplies SZBS800 bainitic steel, the exclusive material for transverse control arms (3.8-mm thick sheet), trailing arms (3.5 mm-thick sheet) and spring control arms (2.0 mm thick sheet).
A further example: Air-hardening steel grades such as RobuSal offer an innovative alternative for chassis components subjected to severe stresses. Today, RobuSal®800 is already proving its tremendous lightweight construction potential on integral sub-frames for the Mercedes-Benz E-Class. This part supports the essential units in the frontend, such as the engine, transmission, front axle and steering. The use of RobuSal®800 in the integral sub-frame reduces the plate thickness and consequently the component weight by 8% compared to the material previously employed.
