The "Wetten, dass ... ? – Mercedes" on display at the Salzgitter trade fair stand

An unusual exhibit featuring steel and technology

The Salzgitter Group, together with 13 subsidiaries from the Group's Steel, Trading, Processing and Tubes Divisions will be presenting a wealth of steel and technology innovations at the Hannover Messe in Hall 4. During the week from April 7 through to April 12, 2003, the trade fair stand F12 will be the Group's communication platform for dialoguing with customers, partners and members of the press.
This year's crowd stopper at the stand will be the Mercedes C 200 Kompressor that featured prominently on the recent run of Germany's highly popular TV show "Wetten, dass ...?" on ZDF. Bidding together with the magazine TV-Spielfilm for the car, the proceeds of the auction will be used to fund the German Football Association's talent promotion program. Bearing around 70 signatures of show and sports stars the automobile is absolutely one of a kind.

Steel accounts for an impressive 70 percent of this automobile‘s makeup. And Salzgitter supplies a considerable portion of the high strength steel involved, an essential material that makes a valuable contribution to safety, elegance and comfort.

Salzgitter Magnesium-Technologie GmbH is also highlighting the Salzgitter Group's outstanding technology competence. SZMT is pushing ahead dynamically with the market introduction of products based on the ultra lightweight material magnesium. The newly founded company has taken a pioneering lead in this area. SZMT develops, manufactures and sells high quality magnesium flat rolled products. As a lightweight material magnesium sheet holds great potential for a host of applications in vehicle manufacturing, mechanical engineering, aerospace, communication technology and medical technologies.

A number of Salzgitter subsidiaries such as Salzgitter Flachstahl, Salzgitter Automotive Engineering, Oswald Hydroforming and Salzgitter Europlatinen are serving a wide range of clients in the automotive industry. The companies are showcasing products such as rims and doors, as well as innovative hydroforming techniques. The atlas research project, a joint undertaking involving Salzgitter Flachstahl and Wilhelm Karmann GmbH is dedicated to automotive lightweight engineering based on steel.

Ranging from line pipes with a length of two meters through to high precision tubes, the Tubes Division companies are presenting an extensive array of offerings. This year, DMV STAINLESS is showcasing umbilicals, among other products. Umbilicals are bundles of stainless steel tubes securing the vital data connections and mission critical energy supply of production ships and production platforms.
