Calculation tool for the CO₂e footprint of steel products

Introducing a new calculation tool for the CO₂e footprint (Product Carbon Footprint/PCF), the companies of Salzgitter Mannesmann Handel GmbH are providing complete transparency concerning the carbon footprint of the steel products they are offering. Salzgitter Mannesmann Handel GmbH, together with its participating Group companies, is now in a position to issue customers a PCF declaration that also features the TÜV SÜD test mark documenting the validation of the underlying PCF calculation methodology.
 

Complete transparency for accurate emissions data

The EU, as well as customers and business partners are calling for greater transparency with regard to the climate impact of industrial activities. The PCF of a product represents an important indicator for making sustainability efforts in the supply chain and production measurable and enabling customers to arrive at conscious purchasing decisions. "The new PCF software solution calculates the CO₂e footprint of the steel product, from raw material extraction through to the customer's factory gate (cradle-to-customer entry gate)," as Tanja Jacobs, Head of Business Development at Salzgitter Mannesmann Handel GmbH outlines. The entire range of greenhouse gases are included and converted into CO₂ equivalents. "This is a major step for us and for our customers. This PCF declaration ensures the traceability of the reduction of our actions and guarantees a high level of transparency within our activities.
