11.03.2016 | Salzgitter AG

EUROPIPE, a 50/50 joint venture of the Salzgitter Group and AG der Dillinger Hüttenwerke, will receive an order for the delivery of large-diameter pipes for the lines 3 and 4 of the Baltic Sea pipeline. This was announced by Nord Stream consortium on Friday in Zug, Switzerland. The total quantity is 2.2 Mio. tons (2.500 km). EUROPIPE will receive approx. 890.000 tons (ca. 1.100 km). The contract will be signed within the next weeks.

The large-diameter pipes will be produced by EUROPIPE GmbH in several production lots from August 2016 up to mid 2018 in the plant in Mülheim an der Ruhr. This, in combination with the other recently booked orders, will secure a basic workload. The raw material for the pipe production will be supplied to EUROPIPE by the shareholders, Salzgitter group and Dillinger Hüttenwerke AG. MÜLHEIM PIPECOATINGS GmbH, a subsidiary of EUROPIPE, will undertake the external coating and internal lining of pipes.

The Nord Stream project is one of the largest and extremely complex offshore gas pipelines, which have ever been constructed. For the first two lines of the Baltic Sea pipeline EUROPIPE produced 1.840 km (1,574 Mio. tons) from April 2008 until September 2011 in the large-diameter pipe mill in Mülheim an der Ruhr.
