At today’s meeting, the Supervisory Board of Salzgitter AG appointed Ms. Birgit Dietze (51) as a new member of the Executive Board. She becomes a member of the board with effect from 09/01/2024 and will assume the role of HR and Labor Director on 01/01/2025. She will then succeed Michael Kieckbusch (63) who will leave the company as agreed on 12/31/2024 and retire. A seamless transition is guaranteed by their parallel period of office.
Until 2022, Ms. Birgit Dietze was responsible for managerial functions for many years at IG Metall, most recently as District Manager for Berlin-Brandenburg-Saxony. Since then she has worked as an attorney in her own law firm, focusing on collective and individual labor law.
Ms. Dietze initially trained as an industrial business manager. Subsequently, she studied economics and followed this with a law degree that she completed by passing the second state exam. Ms. Dietze is married and has a grown-up child.
Heinz-Gerhard Wente, Chairman of the Supervisory Board, commented on the appointment as follows: “We are delighted to have recruited a proven leader in Ms. Dietze. With her experience and knowledge, she will play an active role in helping to shape the upcoming phase of the Group’s transformation. Demographic change that goes hand in hand with rejuvenating the Group’s workforce, will pose a major challenge in the process. We are convinced that she will make a decisive contribution towards successfully positioning and aligning the Salzgitter Group for the future.” In addition, Mr. Wente underlined as follows: “With the recent appointment of Birgit Potrafki as CFO and now of Birgit Dietze, we are one of the few listed companies in Germany with such a high share of women on the Executive Board.”
Heinz-Gerhard Wente also extended his thanks to Michael Kieckbusch: “Michael Kieckbusch has been active for the Salzgitter Group and its predecessor since 1989. During this time, he has successfully shaped the Group and rendered outstanding service as HR and Labor Director since 2013. Mr. Kieckbusch is fully committed to contributing his knowledge and experience in further implementing the transformation in the coming months.”
