Steel for the construction machinery industry: Salzgitter Group at bauma

31.03.2025 | Salzgitter AG

  • Extensive portfolio of steel products and pre-processing services
  • Carbon-reduced excavators and semi-trailers made from SALCOS® green steel on partner stands

The Salzgitter Group with its subsidiaries Ilsenburger Grobblech, Mannesmann Precision Tubes, Mannesmann Line Pipe, Salzgitter Mannesmann Handel and Universal Eisen und Stahl will be exhibiting at bauma in Munich, the world’s leading trade fair for construction machinery, construction vehicles and construction equipment in Hall A6, Stand 203 from April 7-13, 2025.

Hard-wearing heavy plate steel for the toughest, most demanding applications, steel tubes for construction and hydraulics: Steel as a material is indispensable for the construction machinery sector and finds use in countless applications, lending stability, durability and wear resistance to machinery constantly exposed to extreme stresses. The construction machinery sector represents an important target market for the Group and its companies, especially given the background of the infrastructure subsidy programs currently being announced.

Together with its partners, the Salzgitter Group will be presenting two flagship projects for lowering the carbon footprint of yellow goods at bauma. A carbon-reduced excavator on the stand of SENNEBOGEN Maschinenfabrik GmbH (Stand FM.712) highlights the fact that carbon savings of over 70 percent can already be achieved in the production process thanks to the use of SALCOS® steel from recycled scrap. The Salzgitter Group took charge of providing the scrap, the production of slabs via the electric arc furnace route and the processing of components subsequently welded and assembled at SENNEBOGEN. In the future, the carbon-reduced excavator will be deployed in the scrapyard of Salzgitter AG’s subsidiary DEUMU (Deutsche Erz- und Metall-Union) for scrap handling, thereby representing best practice for the circular economy.

Moreover, a truck semi-trailer consisting of the bed and chassis will also be exhibited, with the accustomed characteristics and familiar high quality offering a simultaneous reduction in carbon emissions in the production process. Here, too, SALCOS® steel from the electric arc furnace route is involved. A genuine contribution to decarbonization – on view on the stand of GP Günter Papenburg AG (FS.1110/2) and co-exhibitor Carnehl Fahrzeugbau Pattensen GmbH & Co. KG.

Group companies will be exhibiting products in the following areas at bauma:

Mannesmann Precision Tubes
Mannesmann Precision Tubes GmbH will be presenting its broad product range for “yellow goods” on the joint stand of Salzgitter AG. The emphasis will be on seamless, welded and drawn precision steel tubes for the following scenarios: construction machinery, mining equipment and exploration machinery, materials handling, fluid and drive technology, lift trucks and commercial vehicles, oil hydraulics, general mechanical and plant engineering. Mannesmann precision steel tubes at work in the following areas: hydraulics and pneumatics, pressure lines, turned parts and explorations.

Ilsenburger Grobblech
Ilsenburger Grobblech GmbH supplies a broad range of products for the construction machinery sector, especially with high-strength, wear-resistant steel from its modern heat treatment line. Wear-resistant BRINAR® steel is mainly deployed in applications in which abrasion and wear and tear can lead to failures – such as in excavator buckets, truck beds or cutting tools. High-strength MAXIL® sheet metal with high strength levels delivers low dead weights with simultaneously higher load-bearing capacity, and are utilized, for example, in the lifting industry or in transport.

Mannesmann Line Pipe
The main focus of Mannesmann Line Pipe’s trade fair presentation will be on MSH sections which are available in various sizes and wall thicknesses. The application areas for these hot formed hollow steel sections are in steel construction and mechanical engineering, as well as in the offshore wind industry.
